Freelance.Today I volunteered at the foundation and as they like to keep me busy they are always making sure I have something to do, therefore, some of the time they give me documents and ask me to re-design and in their words "make it look pretty". So here is a Tourettes syndrome fact sheet I re-designed for them.

Creative Design Practice. As part of my Creative design practice module I need to make a posterzine. As my project is based around ADHD and after meeting and listening to Rory Bremner at the ADHDF conference I decided to experiment with some ideas which incorporated images of him and things he said. As I was struggling at the time I decided to tweet one of these and Rory replied to me saying:
"Keep going! remember not to beat yourself up. ADHD makes you who you are, but you can make it work for you!" Here is my branded stationary set which includes: -Business card -Invoice Template -compliment slip Admitting I have ADHD on social media.
“Over the last two days I have had the absolute pleasure of working with the amazing ADHD Foundation at their national conference event as well as attending their winter ball and awards evening, where I was awarded with volunteer of the year which is so so amazing and I am very humbled to have been chosen for this. I have had the opportunity to listen to speakers from across the world and broaden my knowledge on ADHD,neurodiversity and mental health even more which is something I am so very grateful for. Being given the opportunity to help out at such an amazing event based on something that impacts my everyday life is so amazing and it was touching to be in a room with over 700 people who are trying to understand ADHD, with a number of them with the condition themselves. I was able to work alongside some of the best people I have ever met (and meet Rory Bremner). I want to thank everyone from the foundation for a number of things; putting up with me, supporting me, giving me this amazing opportunity (amongst others), selecting me as volunteer of the year, for an AMAZING ball, for all the work you do raising awareness for ADHD and for just all being fantastic people. I will always appreciate everything you have done for me and thank you again for letting me be involved in your amazing charity!
And on that note I have finally decided that for the first time Im going to do something that I havent done before and that is plucking up the courage and announcing via social media that, I HAVE ADHD. Yes I am female and no its not just for boys. It is REAL and it is HARD but it imparts so many positives too. Im not going to pretend to be someone I’m not just to suit societies idea of “normal”. I have ADHD and im not ashamed of it. Thank you to everyone who has supported me with my difficulties and helped me to get where I am today. I will always be grateful💙 Able Dynamic High functioning Different -Rory Bremner 🧠🌟💙💙💙💙" Is it best to know beforehand or leave it as a surprise?
Although I didn't actually hear what he said during the evening here is an outline from an email as to why I was given this award.
Here is what the CEO had to say! "The Award for Volunteer of the year was won by Kristen Hey. Kristen came to the Foundation on student placement and very quickly became part of the team and making a unique contribution with her support in designing a fundraising pack, an introducing the ADHD Foundation booklet which was formerly adopted as part of our marketing collateral and given to all 800 delegates at our national conference. Kristen has also volunteered to help with the design of other printed resources for the Foundation. As an individual who has ADHD herself, Kristen learned a great deal about ADHD while on placement – her enthusiasm for learning, understanding and improving her own skills in order to optimise the creative abilities that are found in the ADHD brain, made this the perfect student placement for kristen and enabled her to develop both personally and professionally. We are above all, delighted with her generosity and the unique contribution she has made to the Foundation’s work and she is a worthy recipient of our Volunteer of the Year Award. Assisting Graphic design teacher with L3 BTEC Art and design Class.Recently I met up with my old Graphic design teacher from college and during a catch up and cake (FREE CAKE) she asked me if I would be able to come into college and help her with her BTEC graphic design students who are now in the position I was, almost three years ago. I obviously jumped at the chance as I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give something back to the college as without their help, Patience (mainly patience), perseverance and support through what was quite a difficult time for me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They are the reason I now have my diagnosis of ADHD and I am eternally grateful for them pushing for that. I also knew that this would help me develop within my professional practice module as I may consider teaching in the future and this was a perfect opportunity for me to get a taste of what it’s like to be on the other side. Although I wasn’t professional the entire time because that’s probably never going to happen (I wasn’t going to pretend to be someone I wasn’t) I was still able to communicate with the students and staff in a positive manner. During classes I was able to support students with their Photoshop skills when they were struggling and could act as a ‘Fresh set of eyes’ which meant I was able to pick up on things that could be improved which the student and class teacher themselves may not have picked up on, due to looking at the same piece of work every day. During my time there I was also able to enlighten the students by discussing what I have learnt through my time studying graphic design, both at university and college. I am not one to beat around the bush and was able to tell the students exactly how it was. One students work was quite poor which I noticed straight away and the teacher had already attempted to give her feedback previously regarding this, however, the student wasn’t co-operative and just continued with what she wanted to do (bad idea when it’s your teacher that marks it…). Before I was aware the teacher had given her feedback already I decided I couldn’t stand there any longer and watch her make this terrible piece of work. So, I stepped in and started to pick out things that needed to be changed and tried to back this up with reasons why. The student co-operated for a short time and she was trying out my ideas. I tried to help her to simplify what she was doing as it was all getting too crowded and she needed to strip it right back to basics for the work to look even the slightest bit professional. I believe I dealt with this situation quite well as I had to refrain myself from telling her it looked shit, which let’s be honest I’m not great at doing. Controlling my impulsiveness is an area I need to develop and believe this opportunity helped me with this.
Component 1Brief 2: Motion
However, I also overlayed the text and rotated it in order to suggest the frustration and confusion that comes with having ADHD and the fact that the viewer would have to really look into what it says in order to be able to read it, just like people should with those with ADHD as they are often misunderstood. The end of the GIF does reveal the message, this also suggests that people should be patient with those with ADHD and understand that some things for those with ADHD just take a bit longer than everyone else. The words overlayed on top of each other could suggest the build up and overwhelmed feeling people with ADHD can experience. The speed and movement of the GIF also conveys the hyperactivity that some people experience when they ADHD and also that they are always ‘On the go”. The use of a variety of colours are used to represent neurodiverstiy and also to suggest that ADHD has no gender.
