The ADHDesigner.
My name is Kristen and I am a graphic designer with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Due to only being diagnosed as an adult, I am still finding my feet and have been learning a lot about myself and how my condition affects my everyday life, particularly over the last three years at university. As well as this I have also been working on finding ways to use it to my advantage. Most people perceive ADHD as a negative. However, it also imparts many positives, particularly within the Art and Design Industry. People often believe that those with ADHD cannot pay attention at all but this is not strictly true. Those with ADHD just have difficulty regulating their attention and can often be found focusing intently on tasks which are of high interest to them, are new and exciting or urgent. This characteristic is called hyperfocus. Hyperfocus if harnessed correctly can be a huge benefit within the workplace as it can allow some people to channel their focus into work related activities for hours on end. As those with ADHD need to be intrinsically motivated it is important that we focus on our strengths and interests as this is how we will thrive. Due to my difficulties I love to create and design easily accessible materials which those with MH conditions and/or SEN can use in order to improve their well being, better manage their condition/s and provide information about their condition/s for themselves and those around them. I am also interested in creating educational materials for those with such conditions, I want to design to make a difference.

It's much more interesting to embrace who you really are rather than wasting energy pretending to be someone else.
