Volunteer of the year award. It was a Wednesday eveining and I was doing my usual thing, trampolining when I got a phone call from a member of staff from the ADHD foundation, she wanted to confirm if was going to be attenting thew winter ball and awards evening, of course the answer was YES. She then continued onto say “now im going to tell you something….” * Instantly thinks I have done something wrong once again…* “ No no no its nothing bad.. well you will probably think it is” “what?” “Now I wanted to tell you before as I know you can freak out but you’ve won an award for volunteer of the year..” This then meant I had to get up at the ball and collect my award in front of loads of people… OH HELLO ANXIETY MY OLD FRIEND…
Stay tuned to find out if I die...

Freelance.Yesterday (Saturday 13thOctober 2018) I received an email from the CEO of the ADHD foundation asking me could I have a play around with their ‘Introducing the ADHD foundation’ Booklet as they have an important meeting on Monday therefore it needed to be done by late Sunday Evening. Which of course I jumped to the opportunity because I love helping the foundation out and to be able to produce work for them is such an amazing opportunity particularly because for any graphics work I produce I have to be interested in the subject matter (hyper focus). So in affect I had 24 hours to complete this task. The great thing about ADHD is the ability to hyperfocus on tasks of interest to you or that are urgent, which in this case it was both urgent and a huge interest of mine so this was a win win situation! However, there was one slight problem… I was on a coaching course from 9am till 5pm outside of town the following day. In conclusion to this I re-designed an entire A4 booklet in approximately 4 hours… impressive right? When I was asked to do this project for the important meeting he did say he would probably come back to me with some changes during the week which was fine… but ADHD isn’t that easy when the task is no longer new, exciting or urgent and there were sooooo many changes requested it was painful and I must have a million separate emails from the CEO with changes, amendments and things he would like adding. Although I was getting quite stressed out and on the verge or a breakdown I managed to percivere and make the changes! (with a lot of break downs and hair pulling in the process). But it gets better… the CEO then puts me in touch with the print company only to find that they needed BLEED MARKS ON THE BOOKLET *cries*, I had touched on this briefly in the past but avoided using them (that back fired) so I was a bit stuck so obviously I went to google for some advice (thank the lord for google) and eventually after what felt like an eternity I successfully added the bleed marks and sent them the 6473826484827 version of the document! This was then printed and distributed to around 800 delegates from across the world at their national conference in November. However, mrs perfectionist over here wasn’t and still isn’t happy with her work but I then have to think about the time frame I had to complete this amongst all of the other things going on in my life like, university and training. It is important for me to learn that I don’t always have to like my work (even though I find this really hard) because the only person that needs to be happy with it is the client right? Here is what I learnt during this project:
This project was totally worth it as my work will now be professionally printed and distributed at their annual conference in November! |
